the Department of Mineral Resources reported that at 00.15 a.m. (Thailand time) there was a 6.4 magnitude earthquake on land at a depth of 76.6 kilometers, classified as a fairly large (Strong) earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake was in northern Chile, approximately 52 kilometers southwest of the city of Diego de Almagro, latitude 26.645 degrees south, 70.489 degrees west (Source: USGS). The cause is the movement of the Nazca plate subducting beneath the South America plate at a rate of approximately 73 millimeters per year.
